The Siege of Excelsis

In the beast-realm of Ghur, where the very land hungers, the coastal city of Excelsis rose around a shard of the old world's core, the Spear of Mallus. Ground to dust, its fragments granted glimpses of the future, and prophecy became the city's lifeblood and its curse. Every seer's vision drew predators, and none came hungrier than the greenskins. So began The Siege of Excelsis, when the massed orruk-warclans descended upon the City of Secrets in a tide of muscle and iron.

The Bonesplitterz had foreseen it in their savage way, and the Ironjawz simply followed the promise of the greatest fight in the realm. Wall and gate buckled beneath their charge, and the streets ran red as the city's defenders were driven back toward the harbour. Only the timely descent of the stormcast-eternals, hurled from the heavens in crackling storm-light, kept the walls from wholesale collapse.

The fighting was without mercy or elegance, a grinding slaughter through market and mausoleum. The defenders of the cities-of-sigmar held the line by drowning it in bodies, and the Spear of Mallus was preserved by the narrowest of margins. Excelsis endured, but it learned the grim arithmetic of Ghur. In the beast-realm, a city does not conquer the land. It merely convinces the land to wait.
