Grombrindal, the White Dwarf, is the greatest mystery and the greatest comfort of the dwarf race: an ancient, white-bearded warrior who appears without warning in the holds' hours of direst need, fights like an ancestor-god reborn, and vanishes the moment the crisis passes, leaving no name and no explanation. Clad in gleaming armour, his beard and hair the pure white of mountain snow, he turns the tide of hopeless battles by his presence alone, and the warriors who fight beside him swear they have never seen his equal with axe or hammer. None know who he truly is. Some say he is the spirit of Grungni, the Ancestor God of mining and craft, walking among his children; others that he is a hero of ages past who cannot rest while the dwarfs endure. Grombrindal offers no answers, only aid, and the dwarfs have long since stopped asking, content to know that when all seems lost and the enemy is at the very gate, the White Dwarf may yet appear at the head of the line, and where he stands, the dwarfs do not fall.
