The Solar War

The Solar War was the final orbital campaign of the Heresy's long road home, the storm that broke upon the gates of humanity before the walls of the Palace were ever assaulted. Horus had come at last to Sol, and the void between the outer planets became a graveyard of drifting hulks and burning fleets.

The Sons of Horus led the traitor spearhead, their vessels hurling themselves against the picket lines and monitor-stations that Rogal Dorn had laboured to raise. The Imperial Fists had turned the whole system into a killing ground of minefields, defence platforms and sensor-nets, yet no fortification devised by mortal hands could stem a tide numbering in the thousands of warships. World by world, moon by moon, the outer defences were overwhelmed.

The Warmaster spent lives and ships without measure, for he understood a truth his brother did not: every hour of delay strengthened Terra, and so speed was worth any butcher's price. When the last void-bastions fell silent and the great armada slid into the inner system, the way to the Throneworld lay open. The Solar War had ended, and the longest siege in the history of Mankind was about to begin.
