Rangers

To walk the Path of the Outcast is to step outside the ordered existence that defines the craftworld Aeldari. Where their kin move from one rigid Path to the next to keep their fierce passions in check, the Rangers reject that safety and strike out alone into the wider galaxy, drawn by wanderlust and a hunger for freedom the craftworld cannot satisfy. Years or centuries later many return, their spirits weathered by the void, bringing with them knowledge of distant worlds and the hard-won instincts of the survivor.

Chief among their gifts is marksmanship without equal. The Ranger carries a long rifle whose psychically grown crystals focus a searing beam across enormous distances, guiding it unerringly into the seams and weak points of an enemy's armour. Draped in a cloak of cameleoline threaded with light-drinking circuitry and a gloom field, a motionless Ranger seems simply to fade from the world, melting into rubble and shadow until the only sign of their presence is a fallen officer and the whisper of a shot already gone.

In war the Rangers serve as the eyes and the hidden knives of the Aeldari host. They range far ahead of the warhost, mapping the ground, severing lines of command and sowing confusion before the Aspect Warriors strike. The most devoted among them become Pathfinders, wanderers who have surrendered so wholly to the outcast life that they can never truly return, much as an Exarch is consumed by the Path of the Warrior. Craftworld Alaitoc, sternest of all the craftworlds, produces such exiles in greater numbers than any other.
