Missile Launcher

The missile launcher is the most versatile heavy weapon in the Imperial arsenal, a shoulder- or vehicle-mounted tube that fires interchangeable warheads to suit any foe. Load it with a krak missile and it punches through tank armour; load it with a frag missile and it scythes down massed infantry in a storm of shrapnel.

This flexibility makes the missile launcher a favourite of commanders who cannot know what the next hour will bring. A single weapon team can crack a bunker, swat a low-flying gunship, or break an infantry charge simply by choosing the right round, switching purpose in the space of a reload. Specialist warheads (flare, smoke, tracking and stranger things besides) extend its uses still further, making it as much a toolkit as a gun.

It arms the Devastator and heavy squads of the Space Marines and the fire-support teams of the Astra Militarum, and rides upon countless light vehicles and walkers. Reliable, adaptable and easily resupplied from standard munitions stores, it asks only a single question of its crew (what is the enemy?) and answers it with the appropriate warhead. For sheer breadth of utility, no other heavy weapon in the Imperial armoury can match it. A veteran launcher team is worth its weight in relics, for its members read the flow of battle and reach for the right warhead before their officer has even given the order, meeting each fresh threat the instant it appears on the field.
