The Cult of Ulric

The Cult of Ulric is the oldest of the great faiths of the Empire of Man, older even than the worship of Sigmar, for Ulric the wolf-god was revered by the tribes of men long before the first Emperor was crowned. Ulric is the god of winter, wolves, and war, and his creed brooks no softness: he honours only the strong, the fierce, and those who conquer their fears with steel in hand.

At the heart of the cult burns the Sacred Flame of Ulric in the great temple of Middenheim, a white fire that has never been quenched and which no natural means can extinguish. Its Ar-Ulric leads the faith from that mountain-city, and his fur-clad priests eschew armour and shield, striding into battle bare-chested to prove their contempt for pain and death. To flinch is to insult the god; to die roaring, teeth bared, is his highest blessing.

The cult holds particular sway in the north and among the folk of Middenland, where the wolf is honoured above the hammer. Its priests bless the warriors of the Empire and lead the faithful against the northern tribes who bow to the Warriors of Chaos, for there is no enemy Ulric's followers despise more than those who kneel to the Dark Gods. In the long winters and longer wars of the Old World, the wolf-god's harsh creed endures because it must.
