The Legion Land Raider Proteus appealed to the Alpha Legion as much for what it could see as for what it could carry. Fitted with a sophisticated explorator augury array, the Proteus could map an enemy's dispositions, detect his hidden reserves, and pinpoint the seams in his lines that the XX so loved to exploit, all while ferrying a squad of operatives behind the thickest armour in the Legion's motor pool. The Alpha Legion used it to deliver its warriors, unseen and unharried, to the precise point where a battle would be decided, then to withdraw them once their work was done and the deception complete. Its auguries fed the intelligence-hungry machine of the XX's war-planning, and its armour ensured that even a plan gone awry could still be salvaged behind its shielding bulk. Patient, watchful, and near unbreakable, the Proteus was a fitting steed for a Legion that struck only when it already knew it had won.
