Prospero

Prospero was once among the most beautiful worlds humanity had ever settled, a serene planet of crystal spires and silver towers, its capital Tizca a shimmering City of Light that rose in perfect geometry from the desert. It became the adopted home of the Thousand Sons and their primarch Magnus the Red, a sanctuary for psykers, savants, and scholars who gathered there to pursue knowledge others feared to touch.

Within its great libraries and pyramid-fanes were hoarded secrets of the arcane and the occult, lore of the warp and the workings of the soul that the young Imperium had begun to condemn as sorcery. Prospero flourished as a haven of learning even as the tide of superstition rose against it, and its people believed their gifts a blessing rather than the curse the Emperor's edicts named them.

That belief proved fatal. In one of the great tragedies of the age, the Emperor dispatched a punitive expedition to bring Magnus to account, and what should have been an arrest became a massacre. The tale is preserved in the Burning of Prospero, a night of fire from which the world never recovered.

It was the Space Wolves who fell upon the crystal city, and in the ruin of that assault Tizca was shattered, its libraries put to the torch and its scholars slain in their thousands. Magnus, in his desperation, made a bargain that damned his Legion forever, and the surviving Thousand Sons fled to a daemon-world within the warp. Prospero itself remains a silent graveyard of broken glass and cold ash, a monument to lost wisdom and to the moment the Imperium turned upon its own.
