Vraks

Vraks was never meant to be famous. A bleak, cratered world of little natural worth, it served the Imperium as a vast armoury-depot, its cracked surface covered end to end with weapon-silos, ammunition dumps, tank-parks, and the stockpiled materiel of a hundred distant crusades. Millions of workers and a modest garrison tended this hoard, guarding weapons enough to arm whole sectors, all of it sitting quietly in the void until the day it would be needed.

That day came in the worst possible form. The world's ruling Cardinal-Astra, corrupted and defiant, refused an inspection and declared against Terra, seizing the entire arsenal for himself and turning Vraks into a fortress of heresy overnight. What followed is chronicled as the Siege of Vraks, one of the longest and most grinding campaigns in Imperial memory.

For seventeen blood-soaked years the Imperium hurled regiment after regiment at the entrenched traitors, and the war became a nightmare of trenches, artillery, and attrition on a scale that consumed millions of lives. Worse still, the defenders' desperation drew the attention of the Ruinous Powers, and daemons and Chaos Space Marines came to fight alongside the heretics, transforming a rebellion into a war against Chaos itself.

By the time the siege ended, Vraks had been reduced to a poisoned, corpse-strewn charnel-ruin, its arsenal spent or destroyed, its surface soaked in blood and warp-taint. The Imperium declared the world lost to safe habitation and set it under quarantine, a scarred and haunted place forever marked by the war that consumed it. Vraks stands as a grim lesson in what happens when the Imperium's own weapons are turned against it, a depot that became a graveyard.
