Temple Guard

Temple Guard are the elite of the saurus caste, larger and prouder than their kin, spawned to a single sacred duty: to shield the slann mage-priests with their lives. Arrayed in ceremonial armour and bearing halberds and great ritual blades, they form an unyielding ring around the palanquin of their charge, and no power in the world has easily broken that ring. Where common saurus are simply fearless, the Temple Guard are devoted, their cold minds filled with a reverence for the Old Ones' chosen that borders on worship. They stand watch over the inner temples for centuries at a time, moving to war only when the slann they guard takes the field. The greatest among them are Eternity Wardens, sworn keepers of Lord Kroak's deathless form. When the Temple Guard are committed to battle, it means the very heart of a temple-city has been threatened, and they will die to the last before they yield it.
