Marneus Calgar

Raised from the deprivation of a feral world to become the successor of an unbroken line stretching back to Guilliman himself, Marneus Calgar has led the Ultramarines through crises that would have shattered lesser commanders, defending Macragge itself against invasions that ranged from opportunistic raiders to full tyranid hive fleets bent on consuming the planet whole. His authority extends well beyond his own Chapter, since Ultramarines Chapter Masters have long held special standing as arbiters of the Codex Astartes doctrine that shapes how a thousand other Chapters wage war.

Calgar's body bears the physical cost of ten centuries at war, sustained by extensive bionic augmentation after wounds that would have ended a mortal life many times over, yet none of that damage has ever slowed the tactical clarity for which he is renowned. He fights with a paired set of relic power fists that have become as much a symbol of Ultramarines resolve as the Chapter's iconic blue battle-plate, and countless younger Astartes across the Imperium study accounts of his campaigns as a template for how a company or Chapter ought to be commanded.

The unexpected resurrection of Roboute Guilliman placed Calgar in the singular position of serving directly under the very primarch whose gene-seed and doctrine had shaped his entire life's education, a reunion of student and master that few in the Imperium's history have ever experienced. Rather than being eclipsed by his primarch's return, Calgar has instead become one of Guilliman's most trusted lieutenants in the grinding Indomitus Crusade, entrusted with holding Ultramar's borders secure while his father's crusade fleets bleed themselves thin trying to stem the chaos unleashed by the Great Rift.
