Marshal

A Marshal is a lord of the Black Templars, holding an office that corresponds to the Captain of a Codex-compliant Chapter yet bound by traditions all its own. Because the Black Templars scorn the fixed organisation of the Codex Astartes and scatter their strength across the galaxy in independent crusades, each Marshal commands a fighting force assembled for a particular war, answering ultimately to the High Marshal who leads the Chapter from the Eternal Crusader.

A Marshal rises to his rank through unmatched valour and hard-won mastery of the crusading way of war, and about him gathers the Household, the Sword Brethren who are the deadliest warriors of his companies. Whether clad in artificer power armour or the venerable plate of Tactical Dreadnought Armour, he goes to battle bearing master-crafted weapons and the accumulated honours of a lifetime of holy war, a figure whose presence alone can steel the resolve of the brethren around him.

Where the crusade marches, the Marshal is its mind and its burning heart. He sets the course of the campaign, chooses where the hammerblow will fall, and leads from the front so that his warriors need never look far to find him in the thickest of the fighting. To follow a Marshal is to be swept up in a tide of zeal that recognises no obstacle and accepts no surrender, for these commanders embody the Black Templars' creed of relentless, unquenchable war against every foe of the Emperor.
