To call the Custodian Guard a rank-and-file formation is to misunderstand what the term means within the Adeptus Custodes. Every warrior wearing this designation has already surpassed the finest champions that other armies can field, having endured a selection and training regimen so punishing that most candidates across the Imperium never even qualify to attempt it.
